Childline’s brief wanted designers to create illustrations for their social media page that will help children.
The following report will look into my design journey for Childline.
To begin the project, one analysed the brief and created a series of mind maps, brainstorms, artist research, and company research. I created two sets of mood boards, potential market and target market. The critical point is the audience’s dependencies on adults; therefore, their feedback is also valuable.
I conducted research and drew examples of Childline’s competition brands, including Young Minds, Samaritans and Mind charity. I notice visual, colour and typography similarities, including handwritten text and images. I gathered visual inspiration by creating research workbooks, ideation exercises and concept drawings.
After creating concept drawings, I then sent my designs for feedback and developed the popular choices. I drew and developed my concepts in Illustrator. My development consisted of a grid structure, symmetrical and asymmetrical designs, colour, typography, and cases. I finalised san serif fonts as they work better with Childline’s aesthetic. I created test materials 2D, 3D and video design. The test materials were then sent for feedback via online surveys and print. The audience loved my designs; however, they wanted me to discuss anxiety. I then researched anxiety for my next design.
Anxiety is a vast topic, and different techniques will help different people. It was difficult focusing on individual needs; therefore, I focused on general tips that can help everyone. My tips focus on ideas that are proven to make a difference. Researching anxiety, I began designing and kept my style consistent with providing a recognisable look. I tested my designs for errors on Adobe software’s, social media, print and tested on devices. My printed designs can function as play cards and be provided in schools to help children.
My outcomes feature a collection of images and video designs for Childline’s website and social media. I included tasks that provide children with fun and engaging exercises. I also focused on imagination tasks allowing teenagers to take a step back and picture their favourite place and future self. Relaxation is another topic I covered and provided information on fruits that reduce stress. I covered positivity, which empowers and motivates teenagers. My final images provide tips on helping children with anxiety.
My journey has been insightful and inspiring. I have created functional and aesthetically pleasing designs for Childline. My designs encourage conversation, partake ethnic diversity, utilise flat illustration and are bold, warm, fun and engaging.
